What is a notary public?

Do I need an appointment?

Appointments are recommended to ensure availability, especially for mobile or multiple-document signings. Walk-ins may be accepted when available.

 

What kind of ID is required?

Texas law requires a current, government-issued photo ID, such as a driver’s license, state ID, passport, or military ID.

 

Can you notarize documents in another language?

Yes, as long as the document includes a notarial certificate in English and the signer understands what they are signing.

 

Can you notarize documents for family members?

Yes, as long as I am not a party to the transaction and have no financial interest in the document.

 

Can you notarize a document if someone is in the hospital, jail, or nursing home?

Yes, mobile notary services are available for hospitals, nursing homes, jails (where permitted), and private residences.

 

Do you provide witnesses?

Witnesses are the responsibility of the signer unless arranged in advance.

 

Can you give legal advice or tell me what form to use?

No. Texas notaries are not attorneys and cannot provide legal advice or prepare documents.
